Frightening Coffin

Flying Coffin doesn't really need the press at this point, but I have to tip my hat once again to Jason and FC for this sneaky little tee and hat set that just popped up.

Last year I posted up the Halloween tee they did and now FC has decided to make it an annual tradition and has even raised the bar with a New Era no less.

I am going to predict a one day sell out on this one so get your mouse and alarm clock ready for Oct 1st when these both go on sale on the site and at other fine retailers.

News of The Weird

"The Nebraska legislature's new "safe haven" law for unwanted babies, like other states' laws, allows them to be dropped off anonymously at hospitals to discourage abortions (and neglect by unfit parents). However, unlike other states' laws, Nebraska's applies not just to infants, but "minors," because, said Sen. Tom White, "All children deserve our protection." In September, the first two non-infants were abandoned, as exasperated parents gave up on rebellious sons aged 11 and 15, and critics say the law could apply to those up to age 19." [Lincoln Journal Star, 9-15-08]

Ed* The moral here kids is that if you're acting up and don't want to get with the program you will get your ass dropped off at the hospital no questions asked style.

P.S My friend Angela actually knows the red-haired kid from "Problem Child" and says dude has a pony tail with shaved sides and has a wicked sword collection. Real talk.

Superjail!

Just when you thought Aqua Teen, Venture Bros, and Metalocalypse were the best shows on Adult Swim along comes Superjail!.

This show will ruin anything you currently watch as far as cartoons go. The best way I can describe it is to imagine smoking dust while taking shots of Nyquil and listening to Slayer.

I am officially going on record here and saying this will be the best show of the year.

Peep it while it is still up for view.

Diesel XXX

They lifted the idea from someone else apparently, but it's still amazing.

Reggae Album Art

Jammy ruled the 80's.

Little John posin' vicious.

Another one of my all time favorite album covers. Read the little phrases.

This looks like a high school senior year photo from Selassie High.

Right?

For all the 94' heads out there.

Heltah Skeltah's new album = good.

Ante Up

"Ante Up" as dictated by Lil Fame

"Take minks off! Take things off!
Take chains off! Take rings off!
Bracelets is yapped, Fame came off!
(Ante Up!) Everything off!
Fool what you want? We stiflin them fools
Fool what you want? Your life or your jewels?
The rules, (back em down) next thing, (clap em down)
Respect mine we Brooklyn bound, (bound! now, (now!)"

Tee Eye

The rap game is sort of redeeming itself lately for me. For a while I was seeking out 80's hardcore albums and hard to find 80's dancehall singles because I was so bored of rap.

People are beginning to make actual albums worth listening to again and on a major level no less.

First the Jeezy album came out (download it if you have your doubts) and now T.I drops "Paper Trail" and it is just as good maybe even a bit better.

This one plays more like "King" than anything else and I think that is good thing. He mixes in the heaters, singles, and "emotional thug" type songs through out and it makes it feel like an actual album versus just a collection of radio singles.

One listen to "Swagga Like Us" featuring Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Weezy will shut up any bitter hip-hop fan, period.

Get it before big brother pulls the link.

Track List:

1. 56 Bars (Intro)
2. I’m Illy
3. Ready For Whatever
4. On Top Of The World (feat. Ludacris and B.o.B)
5. Live Your Life (feat. Rihanna)
6. Whatever You Like
7. No Matter What
8. My Life Your Entertainment (feat. Usher)
9. Porn Star
10. Swing Ya Rag (feat. Swizz Beatz)
11. What Up, What’s Haapnin’
12. Every Chance I Get
13. Swagga Like Us T.I. and Jay-Z (feat. Kanye West and Lil Wayne)
14. Slide Show (feat. John Legend)
15. You Ain’t Missin’ Nothing
16. Dead And Gone (feat. Justin Timberlake)

Bat Eating Frog

Monday morning is already off to a good start. I get a photo everyday from National Geographic in my inbox and they usually are of the generic feel goodery type, but then this little slice of heaven showed up this morning.

I don't care what the Pubs says the chicks in Estevan Oriol's photos give me a boner.

I will not hear otherwise.

Seattle Loses Another One

Seattle's Ambassador of The Bay a.k.a Mike Series (on the right) is departing the city for Dallas, TX.

Pizza, pizza, party!!!

Posse

Also if you aren't on game Mike holds down a serious Flickr account mainly due to the fact that he is just too damn lazy to do a blog.

Busy Signal

I don't think it is much of stretch to say Busy Signal is probably the biggest star in dancehall at the moment.

He has a lot of things going for him that sort of validate the above statement. First off he's one of the few singer/deejays meaning he can sing chune and chat as fast lightning when needed. This gives him so many options when it comes time to voice over a riddim. Busy can shift from super complex patois to anthemic melodies with so much ease you wonder if it is the same person on the song.

Secondly, he's in The Alliance (think of a dancehall version of Dipset but less corny) which also happens to include leader Bounty Killer, Demarco (Heavy Manners Mix???) Bugle, Serani, and Mavado to name a few.

I liked Busy when I first heard him, but after getting my hands on both "Holding Firm" and now "Loaded" I'm pretty sold on how good he really is.

The track list is practically a dancehall hit list of the past year with "Jail" , "Wine Pon Di Edge" , "These Are The Days" , and "Knocking At Your Door" all on one album.

Easy Busyyyyyy!

For the newbie this album might be a bit fast for you so download at your own risk, but if you listen to dancehall then you already know this will probably be one of the best releases this year if not the best release of the year.

And for all of those people who still don't listen to dancehall check Fader Mag (probably the best music magazine on news stands) felt Busy was worth putting on the cover.

Read up on him below:

T.I (Shawty Lo Diss)

Ed* I don't keep up with beefs these days just because it is so theatrical to say the least, but this one is pretty good.

Shawty Lo tries to call out T.I so Mr. T.I.P decided to film this video in Shawty Lo
s "hood" a.k.a Bowen Houses and throws a cook out. Genius.

Tag Bang

Taken from Wooster:
Last week a group of 30 Pixadores stormed the Choque Cultural Gallery in protest against the "marketing, institutionalization and domestication of Street Art" by the galleries and media. Paintings by Gerald Laing, Speto, Titi Freak and others were tagged by the Pixadores.

SDTW thinks:

I don't know how I feel about this one. I mean I sort of applaud the "bum rush" apsect of it, but art is in the eye of the beholder and selling it is by no means "selling out."

I personally enjoy the ephemeral aspect of the graffiti and street art, but if someone offered to pay or sponsor those en devours I wouldn't consider that "selling out."

People who do not participate or are not of the same caliber in said mediums are usually the quickest to open their mouths and scream sell out. Just do you. Let someone else paint whatever the f*ck they want to. That is sort of the point.

BUT....

If you are going to diss someone you may as well go balls deep and bum rush their show and cross them out Sao Paulo style.

San Diego's Most Flaunted

In an effort to be "fair and balanced" I decided to share the internuts best kept secret. Or at least San Diego's best kept secret....

The Women of Bumsville.

Living in what most chicks would consider "squalor" these 3 brave and self-described bitches eat, sleep, and sh*t on the edge between downtown and Logan/Imperial Ave. If you know where that is then you already know you're too much of a p*ssy to even drive there.

I used to live a couple blocks from there spot and it is sketch central. All that being said these 3 ladies hold it down and blog about the goings on which in of itself is refreshing seeing as I only know dudes that blog and it's always about the same stupid stuff. Myself not excluded.

San Diego a.k.a Saint James

Lenox and I just got back from SD the 1904. I wish I had taken more pictures and gotten to see more people, but it is what it is.

Nick loves him some cigarettes and butt scratchin'. Not in that order per say.

Sometimes you gotta give them an eye jammie when they don't cook your eggs right.

Dig deeper Terry.

Better than all the world's restaurants put together.

If they have a sign it must be true.

A rare sighting of a Lenoctapus.

I really wish everyone could have the pleasure of knowing this gentleman. He goes by Chauncy and he has the wondrous ability to appear out of thin air on command. If it were up to me I would own a mansion and give him his own "wing" where he could do whatever he pleased.

Oh you didn't hear playa? Drinking coffee at the bar is where its at son. Do like I do.

The National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood

= NO MAAM.

The last thing some poor drunk hipster chick sees before blacking out.

The idea is to write your name on something. Scrap can savage.

The most glaring difference between San Diego and Seattle is the mexican food. It depresses me to no end. San Diego = 1 Seattle = 0.

Lenox finds out where chicken mcnuggets come from finally.

Brian and Justin in front of Street Machine. You could see more in one day in front of this shop than an entire year anywhere else.

The Corsican Brothers.

The problem with being accused of being seen at a gay bar is whether it is true or not the sheer accusation alone sort of insinuates guilt. It's also worth noting that Vince was also spotted there too. This picture demonstrates this actual moment better than any other photo I've ever taken.

Gather Round Now Crowd A People

Most folks do not understand dancehall culture or its mainstream popularity in other countries around the world.

Dancehall as a whole is more thoroughly understood and supported in other countries like the U.K, Japan, Italy, France, among others. Where as the U.S has only a few regions nationwide that truly support the scene.

That all being well in good just watch this clip at the 1:20 second clip and peep the crowd at this Mr. Vegas show in Japan.

The U.S never produces crowds of this size for an artist like Vegas.

KO NEE CHI WAAAAHHHHHH GWAN!

SDTW presents "Armagideon" Mix

I was going to sleep last night and suddenly felt compelled to put together a roots/rub a dub mix for whatever reason.

Peep the track list below:

The first half is mostly roots and deejay tunes. It sort of picks up the pace after that with some rub a dub and early dancehall and ends with Gregory doing some niceness.

Put this on while stuck in bloodclot traffic and it should ease things up a bit.

"Not even the dog that pisses on the wall of Babylon shall escape this here judgement...."
